Hi ,
I'd like to share an insight that came up during our session today, and has been a theme in what I've read and listened to throughout the week. It's about the value of detached observation. Specifically the observation of what is going on in our mind, but from a more neutral and separate vantage point where we can watch but not become entangled or drawn into the drama that may arise. There are many ways to work on achieving this state, but meditation is one if the better known ways. During meditation it is common for random thoughts to come to the surface but we can observe those thoughts from the quiet part of us, and then gently let them go.
I've also been reading a book by Julia Cameron (Finding Water) in which she recommends "morning pages" - writing 3 full pages every morning about anything that's on your mind. This is another exercise in detached observation - by putting things from your mind on paper they naturally become separated from you and can be more objectively dealt with. This leads to improved states of calm, and ultimately higher states of consciousness.
With gratitude, Andrew
